In Between Iraq and a Hard Place, Sarah Carlson-Rose shares her powerful and moving memoir of military service and moral ambiguity. Carlson-Rose joined the Army Reserve in 2002, shortly after the 9/11 attacks, and was deployed to Iraq in 2005.
As a medical specialist, Carlson-Rose witnessed firsthand the horrors of war. She saw young men and women lose their lives, she saw children suffer, and she saw civilians become collateral damage in battles that had no clear lines. The experiences of her service left her deeply disillusioned with war and the military.
In this beautifully written and thought-provoking memoir, Carlson-Rose recounts her experiences in Iraq and explores the moral challenges and ethical dilemmas that she and her fellow soldiers faced. She raises important questions about the nature of war and the use of military force. Between Iraq and a Hard Place is a must-read for anyone interested in the human cost of war and the complexities of military service.
Carlson-Rose's memoir is a powerful and important book. It is a story of courage, compassion, and disillusionment. It is a story that will stay with the reader long after the last page is turned.
