Norton dominated the Daytona 200 motorcycle race in the 1940s and 1950s, winning five times in seven years. This article takes a look back at Norton's Daytona dominance and the riders who made it happen.

Norton's Early Success at Daytona

Norton first entered the Daytona 200 in 1937, and the British manufacturer quickly became a force to be reckoned with. In 1941, Ken Kavanagh rode a Norton to victory in the inaugural Daytona 200, and Norton would go on to win the race again in 1947 and 1948.

Norton's success at Daytona was due in part to the company's strong racing program. Norton had a team of talented riders, including Kavanagh, Robert McCracken, and Tommy McDermott, and the company's motorcycles were among the fastest and most reliable on the track.

Norton's Dominance in the 1950s

Norton's dominance at Daytona continued in the 1950s. In 1950, McDermott won the Daytona 200 on a Norton, and McCracken won the race in 1951 and 1952. Norton's fifth and final Daytona 200 win came in 1954, when Dick Klamfoth rode a Norton to victory.

Norton's success at Daytona in the 1950s was even more impressive than its success in the 1940s. The competition at Daytona was much stiffer in the 1950s, and Norton's motorcycles were no longer the fastest on the track. However, Norton's riders were able to overcome these challenges and continue to win races.

Norton's Legacy at Daytona

Norton's five Daytona 200 wins in seven years is a record that has never been matched. Norton's success at Daytona helped to establish the company as one of the greatest motorcycle manufacturers in history.

Norton's legacy at Daytona continues to this day. The company's motorcycles are still raced at Daytona, and Norton riders have won the Daytona 200 several times since the company's last win in 1954.

Norton's riders were some of the best in the world, and the company's motorcycles were among the fastest and most reliable on the track. Norton's success at Daytona helped to establish the company as one of the greatest motorcycle manufacturers in history.
